The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted NEET UG 2026 on 3 May 2026 in a single shift from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Around 22.79 lakh candidates appeared across 566 exam cities — 552 within India and 14 abroad. That's roughly 22 lakh students all asking the same question right now: what did I score?
The answer key is your first tool to find out. It lets you compare your responses with the correct answers, calculate an expected score, and decide your next steps — all before NTA officially declares the result. If something looks wrong in the key, you can even challenge it and possibly change your score.
Here's everything you need to know — explained practically, without the fluff.

📥 How to Download the Official Answer Key
Once NTA releases the provisional answer key at neet.nta.nic.in, here's exactly what you need to do. The steps are the same every year — login, select your paper code, download the PDF, and match your answers.
Open the official NTA NEET portal
Go to neet.nta.nic.in in your browser. This is the only official portal — do not trust third-party sites claiming to host the official key. The site may be slow on release day due to heavy traffic; try early morning or late night.
Find the Answer Key notification
On the homepage, look for a link titled "NEET UG 2026 Answer Key" or "Provisional Answer Key 2026" in the Latest News / Public Notices section. NTA adds it prominently so you won't need to dig around.
Log in with your credentials
Click the download link. You'll be redirected to a login page. Enter your Application Number and Date of Birth (or Password). These are the same credentials you used during registration.
Select your paper code
NEET 2026 was distributed in four paper codes — 11, 12, 13, and 14. Your paper code is printed on the top of your question booklet. Select the correct code to get the right answer key — matching the wrong code will give inaccurate results.
Download the answer key PDF
The PDF will open on screen. Click Download or Save. Also download your OMR Response Sheet from the same portal — it shows exactly what bubbles you filled. Compare the two side by side.
Match responses and calculate your score
Go through your OMR sheet question by question. Mark each answer as Correct (+4), Wrong (−1), or Unattempted (0). Tally up the final score using the formula in the calculator below. Done — you have your expected score.
📄 Unofficial Answer Keys — Available Right Now
You don't have to wait for NTA. Major coaching institutes release their own memory-based answer keys within hours of the exam ending. These are prepared by experienced faculty and are typically 95–99% accurate compared to the final official key.
Use coaching keys to get a rough score estimate immediately. But treat it as an estimate — always cross-check with the official NTA key when it comes out, since the final result is based only on NTA's key.

📊 NEET 2026 Marking Scheme — Explained Simply

⚠️ How to Challenge the Answer Key
If you believe NTA has given an incorrect answer for any question in the provisional answer key, you can officially challenge it. NTA takes all objections seriously — in past years, several questions have been revised based on valid challenges, improving scores for thousands of students.
Challenge Process — Key Details
How to Challenge
Only online, through the official challenge portal at neet.nta.nic.in. No offline or email challenges are accepted.
Challenge Fee
₹200 per question challenged. This fee is completely non-refundable — even if your challenge is accepted and NTA revises the answer.
Window Duration
Typically 4–5 days after the provisional answer key is released. Do not miss this window — no extensions are given.
What You Need
You must submit supporting evidence — NCERT page references, scientific publications, or other textbook sources that back your answer.
Review Process
NTA appoints subject expert committees to review every objection. If accepted, the answer key is revised for all candidates — not just the challenger.
After Challenge
NTA publishes the final answer key after reviewing all objections. The result is then prepared based only on the final key — not the provisional one.
